The 1923 incorporation of the town of West Covina, home to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, is quite possibly one of the country’s earliest instances of the NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) mindset. It seems that the nearby town of Covina had an abundance of sewage on their hands, and thought it a capital idea to move it somewhere else, presumably downwind. They found just the right spot a little to the west of their town, and began going about the business of securing the disposal site for their “business.” Unfortunately for the folks of Covina – yet fortunately for their neighbors to the west – several people who had land adjacent to the proposed sewage farm got wind of the plan, and realized that the best way to stop it was to incorporate the area and ban the sewage farm in the new city’s charter.
Since those days so long ago, West Covina’s population has ballooned from a few hundred to over 100,000, and there is of course a lot more business to keep track of – far too much to rely on the grapevine. Residents now turn to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune for much of their news, and the Tribune in turn looks to www.PRBuzz.com press release service to keep them abreast of what’s happening, not just upwind, but around the world.

And perhaps the quickest way out of that unflattering limelight is via a good, old-fashioned press release campaign, to show the world either that the rumors aren’t true or if they are, that in the grand scheme, they don’t really matter.
